Infomercial ScriptThere is a certain method as to how to write a script that will command the immediate attention of a consumer, and compel them to pick up the telephone and call to make an order. During the initial script outlining process, the producer will help determine the key features and benefits of the product or service, and how to position it to a consumer to ascertain the strongest selling proposition. It is during this phase of the process that one may want to determine the product's story, and the top five selling points about a product that could motivate them to purchase it. These bullet points may be mentioned throughout a spot and be the driving force behind the infomercial. Reinforcing the message behind your product instills the belief in consumers that they just have to have it. Price will be discussed, and the offer you would like to make on your spot, such as buy one get one free. It will need to be decided what type of talent you will use, such as a celebrity spokesperson, and what ages they will be. After all of these objectives are determined during the initial phase of scripting process, the actual script writing can begin. First, the producer determines the structure of the commercial or infomercial. A basic flow for a spot is explaining what the product is, what it does, and why new consumers need it--how it is better than similar products out there. Or it may be a new, unique product, which could be another point you may want to drive home. It is important to decide what the objective or message is that you're trying to get across to the consumer at every segment of the infomercial. A rough outline can be drafted for review by the client. After the outline is approved, a draft of the script is written by the producer. This outline is referred back to repeatedly, to determine whether or not each segment of the show has accomplished the sales objectives. The points they want to make may be conveyed through product demonstrations, a pitch to camera by the spokesperson, product shots, before and after pictures and testimonials. There will be script meetings and reviews by the client until the final script is agreed upon. |
